Hand crafted

terrestrial globes & library accoutrements in dollhouse scales.

Not to mention: Wheels, vehicles, specialized tools and fixtures, plans and patterns. Then there are “Head Starts”, workshop packages, and other kinds of off-center, occasional fun stuff.

A boy spent rainy days in the family attic surrounded by wonderful books about adventure and discovery, a model square rigger that had been made by his Uncle Frank, and a worn out old globe. Over the surface of that globe he sailed a finger in the wakes of Magellan, Drake, Slocum, & Heyerdahl. He trekked the Silk Road with Marco Polo, scaled Everest with Hillary, measured and mapped India with Rennell, and the American west with Lewis and Clark.

Today, my home library overflows with globes of every size and description. They are a passion but I would trade them all for that dented, tattered, finger worn, and magical old relic in a childhood attic. On that one, I could find and identify exotic ports, murmur names as though incantations, and be there.I still  trace those familiar coastlines but these days it is with art pens over the surface of ping-pong balls. Uttering names I am transported to rainy days in nineteen-forties Cleveland. This is the enchantment of My Little Worlds.
