Eileen Sedgwick is an Artist and Doll-maker based in the UK. She has been making one-of-a-kind, mainly twelfth scale, figures since 2003, but has worked in art and design all her life. Originally trained in Fine Art to post graduate level, she still loves drawing from life, from the figure, and working in mixed media. She taught art and design for over 10 years in schools, at GCSE and A Level, specializing in large hand-built sculpture, before leaving to start a family. Storytelling re-awoke in her an early love of myths and legends, fantasy and fairy tales, and she now loves to discover new ones! This experience, combined with a long-standing interest in textiles and historical costume, is now distilled into her unique miniature figures. Each one is sculpted by Eileen from artist’s quality polymer clay without the use of moulds at any stage. She then carefully paints, assembles, wigs and dresses each character, making most of her own accessories and sometimes intricate stands or settings. A wide range of styles of figure are made, from more traditional doll-house dolls in accurate historical costume, to those inspired by paintings or music, famous faces from films, books, television etc, through to original fantasy creations. There is a sense of life and movement in her work. Time is invested in fine detail and in the choice of materials, some of which are hand painted or embellished, giving her work a distinctive quality. Eileen was delighted to be awarded Recognised Artist status in 2008 at the British Miniature Doll-maker’s Guild. She occasionally accepts commissions. Figures are available directly from her, through eBay, eBid and Fairs, details of which can be found on her website: www.eileensedgwick.com
